Watching Me, Watching You: Reflections Upon Surveillance, Gare Loch Duality and the #UndesiredLine

From my local observations, the everyday military surveillance, an ever-present panopticon, perpetuates both conscious and unconscious stress in lives of those who endure it. In this paper I will reflect upon experiences a 224 mile pilgrimage that undertook 2018, over period 50 days. It was daily walk from front door house to Faslane Nuclear Submarine Base, on Gare Loch Scotland. A walking performance, through which drew Undesired Line grass verge parallel existing "undesired line" - perimeter fence Base. Throughout time performance progress, made online text artwork using Twitter hashtag #UndesiredLine. One year later, reactivated #UndesiredLine text-work order analyse subsequent observations establish platform (and outlet) examine complex reality ‘duality’. look at potential legacy for The Line, how can use documentation: video, photos, journal writings, field recordings, tweets maps. addition appraising own work, discuss surveillance focused artworks by David Rokeby, Janet Cardiff Surveillance Camera Players. also consider some ethical challenges interactive art, as well implications limitations "piggy-backing" onto platforms such Google Maps.
